But thanks to the section’s playoff seeding, its players feel as if they have something to prove Friday night when they play San Ramon Valley for the D-I title at Dublin High. The Pirates were unbeaten during the regular season but were slotted as the No. 3 seed behind No. 1 De La Salle and No. 2 SRV in the Open/Division I bracket.“It’s personal. That should’ve been our No. 2 seed,” Pittsburg quarterback Marley Alcantara said. “We went 10-0 in the regular season, and they just got put up in Division I this season. We’ve got to prove what we already know. We’re 12-0 and are about to be 13-0.”SRV lost to De La Salle 17-7 on Friday in the Open Division final...6 best farm tours in the Western US includes a Napa Valley entry

Taste of Home magazine recently showcased the best farm tours in all 50 states, although they use the term “farm tour” with a certain amount of poetic license. However wonderful Calistoga’s Castello di Amorosa is, we wouldn’t describe the Tuscan-inspired castle and winery as a “farm.”Much as we appreciate the Napa Valley shout out, we’d have suggested Harley Farms, the goat dairy in Pescadero, or Pennyroyal‘s farmstead creamery and vineyard in Boonville. Or Ardenwood in Fremont, which mixes history with the farm frolic. Or Hidden Villa in Los Altos Hills, where the farm fun is very hands on. Or — you get the idea. That said, the Taste of Home list includes some treasures, from a Kona coffee plantation in Hawaii to a crawfish farm in Roanoke, Louisiana, and — wait for it — a pizza farm in Waseca, Minnesota. (They grow tomatoes and oregano, not bales of pepperoni, but we’re still charmed.)Flower lovers can head for...Kurtenbach: Brandon Aiyuk, the 49ers’ forgotten star, is done being overlooked

Brandon Aiyuk’s big game against the Buccaneers wasn’t a breakout. It was a culmination. It was a celebration. It was a reminder that on a team chock full of superstar players, Aiyuk, the forgotten star, is as good — and as important — as anyone. In Sunday’s 27-14 win, he was the centerpiece of a 49ers passing attack that worked over Tampa Bay. The Niners receiver had the most prolific performance of any receiver in the NFL on Sunday by catching five passes for a career-high 156 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was a 76-yard beauty from Brock Purdy, who said after the game that Aiyuk “deserves it, man.”“We’ve been wanting to get a deep one for him for a while, so [it] felt good.”And while Aiyuk is no charity case, it’s understandable that there was extra love for the receiver after the game. He’s having an absolutely monster year, but it hasn’t translated into touchdowns. Sunday was only his fourth score of the season, and j...Two vehicles figure in head-on collision outside Castroville, killing one
