By KARL RITTER (Associated Press)KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — A Russian missile struck an apartment building in the center of Kramatorsk on Tuesday, killing at least one person and wounding seven others in one of Ukraine’s major city strongholds in its eastern Donetsk region as it fights against Moscow’s invasion, officials said.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy posted a video showing gaping holes in the facade of the low-rise building that bore the brunt of the strike. The Ukrainian general prosecutor’s office and regional Gov. Pavlo Kyrylenko also reported on the attack, posting photos of the building with mounds of rubble in front of it. The impact damaged nine apartment blocks, a kindergarten, a local bank branch and two cars, Kyrylenko said. The war, which erupted after Russia’s launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, has brought heavy civilian casualties. The return of wolves to the West has always been contentious, and the deaths last fall of more than 40 cattle in western Colorado alarmed ranchers. But here’s the true story: Wolves did not kill those cattle found dead near Meeker. After months of investigation, the state agency, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, found no evidence of wolves in the area at all.Yet when the news of the cattle deaths went public last October, the agency issued a press release stating it was “investigating a report of dead domestic cow calves on White River National Forest lands near Meeker that show damage consistent with wolf depredation.”A month later, the agency’s Northwest regional manager testified before the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission that though some of the cattle had injuries that appeared to come from wolves, he added: “It’s perplexing; it’s confusing; it’s frustrating, trying to figure out exactly what occurred in this incident.” The story of wolves as the culprits, however, made nation...We asked every Denver mayoral candidate for 5 years of tax returns. Denver’s next mayor could be a businessman whose household brought in $1 million-plus in 2021 or a retiree who reported no income that year. The job also could be filled by any of the several candidates who reported six-figure incomes over the past five tax years from a variety of sources: banking, entrepreneurship or serving as chief executives.Whoever wins will earn nearly $190,000 a year — or possibly more, after the City Council adjusts officials’ salaries in coming weeks — to lead a city of 711,000 people and a municipal government with more than 14,000 workers. The Denver Post asked each of the 17 candidates on the ballot for copies of their tax returns for 2017 through 2021. Eleven agreed, though a representative for one didn’t follow through by The Post’s deadline. Another provided viewing access to the documents, but not copies. The documents do not show the candidates’ total assets, only reported income and related snapshots of their finances; sometime...Colorado customers of failed Silicon Valley Bank scrambling to find new lenders

Colorado’s technology companies relied heavily on Silicon Valley Bank, and the federal government’s decision over the weekend to guarantee uninsured deposits after a takeover on Friday avoided a wider financial crisis by allowing the bank’s customers to access their money to meet payroll and other expenses.Regulators, however, were unable to find another bank willing and able to take on SVB’s loan portfolio, leaving many borrowers scrambling to line up new creditors, who themselves are struggling with the rapid rise in interest rates that contributed to the failure of three banks this month.“They need their credit facility in place and that is creating problems. The government will not be a lender. The FDIC can’t do that,” said George Singer, a partner in Denver with the law firm Holland & Hart while discussing the non-stop stream of calls he has been receiving from Colorado clients. The most pressing worry initially was about paying bills afte...Gardening: Nature’s early risers are peeking their heads above ground

In First Presbyterian Church of Englewood’s basement Sunday afternoon, five Coloradans dressed in wacky regalia and big, honkin’ shoes marched before their loved ones — and past a painting of the Last Supper — belting “Pomp and Circumstance” on kazoos. An audience of family, friends and plainclothes clowns squinting to recognize each other without white-painted faces cheered on as the five men, women and teens each leveled up from layperson to professional goofball. It was graduation day for the 2023 cohort of Colorado Clown Alley’s 10-week clown school. Aurora has a new taproom just a five-minute walk from Stanley Marketplace.Owner and brewmaster Ross Koenigs recently opened his dream brewery, Second Dawn Brewery Co., with his wife Amy at 2302 Dayton St.The name references Aurora, which is Latin for dawn. The Koenigs believe if there were two dawns, the second would be after work enjoying a cold beer.Ross Koenigs previously worked for New Belgium Brewing Co. as a sales associate, brewer and head of new product design and research. The couple decided to open their own brewery during the pandemic.“It has really always been my dream and ambition,” Ross Koenigs said. “Entrepreneurship has always been very important to me.”Koenigs paid $1 million for the property last year. The 5,100-square-foot taproom used to be an auto body repair shop. Koenigs completely gutted the space, although garage-like doors still lead from the taproom to the brewing area behind it. The European Parliament has approved its position on new rules on the access and use of data collected by connected machines, modern household appliances or industrial robots. The so-called "Data Act", fundamentally shaped by EPP Group Member and Parliament's lead negotiator Pilar Del Castillo MEP, will provide much needed legal certainty on who owns data that currently is mostly unused. The new rules concern connected machines and appliances which collect enormous amounts of data, be it mobile phones, industrial robots or even washing machines. Until now, harmonised rules on how this data is accessed and used have been lacking. The EU Data Act aims to close this legal gap."The Data Act is an opportunity to optimise existing business models and processes, boost the development of new ones, create new value, structures and partner networks. In other words, an immense opportunity for competitiveness and innovation. It will change how we interact and use data", Del Castillo said."For th...Latest news
