Northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were finally reopened in Lebec Tuesday morning, hours after a shooting occurred on the highway.Officers responded to reports of a man who was brandishing a gun on the side of the freeway around 7:30 p.m. The suspect was also accompanied by a woman, Fort Tejon CHP Officer Williams told KTLA. While details are limited, authorities say the driver of a semi-truck that pulled over was shot after getting into an altercation with the suspect. The truck driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital in Bakersfield, authorities said. The suspect, described as a white male wearing all black, along with an unarmed Hispanic female who was also wearing black, fled the scene on foot. Authorities are unsure if the pair might have gotten into another vehicle to get away but said that they are investigating all possibilities. Just before 9 p.m., Caltrans reported that traffic on the northbound 5 Freeway at Gra...Los Angeles County officials ID buildings in need of seismic retrofitting

More than 30 Los Angeles County-owned buildings are in need of seismic upgrades, according to a list released by the county. From structures at LAC+USC Medical Center, to the county's Hall of Administration in downtown Los Angeles, 33 buildings are at risk because they're built with non-ductile concrete, which uses "an inadequate configuration of steel reinforcing bars, which allows concrete to explode out of columns when shaken in an earthquake, a prelude to a catastrophic collapse," the Los Angeles Times reports. This building material has been heavily criticized as contributing to the massive damage in the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that killed more than 20,000 people in Turkey and Syria earlier this year. County officials hope to have the buildings retrofitted within 10 years, though the Times noted that "experts estimate [such efforts] will probably cost hundreds of millions of dollars."Emily Ratajkowski accused of betraying pal Olivia Wilde with Harry Styles makeout session

In a new twist in the ethnic fraud allegations against Sacheen Littlefeather, a prominent filmmaker in Native American circles who organized a film industry celebration of the late Bay Area activist as a Native American icon, has herself been accused of faking claims of Cherokee heritage. The New York Post and other outlets are reporting on allegations made against Heather Rae, who produced “Frozen River” and other films and who serves on the Indigenous Alliance of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Alliance organized a gala tribute for Littlefeather in September, a few weeks before her death at age 75 and before her sisters came forward to say that Littlefeather spent the past 50 years falsely claiming to be White Mountain Apache and Yaqui. The allegations against Rae come from the Tribal Alliance Against Frauds, an organization that examines claims of Native ancestry from individuals and businesses, The Guardian said. Then, in the second half, a single stint of 2:19.And the game before that, a road victory over the Detroit Pistons, there was a single 1:28 stint in the third quarter on the night, 88 total seconds of action.“No, never ever did anything like this,” Highsmith said with ...Latest news
