Texas Hill Country prepares for thousands of visitors ahead of total solar eclipse

DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas (KXAN) -- Hotel rooms are booking up or already sold out ahead of next April's total solar eclipse, according to officials with the City of Dripping Springs. The total solar eclipse, which will occur on April 8, 2024, is one of two that's path will move across Central Texas.The second eclipse will occur on Oct. 14 of this year. That eclipse is an annular eclipse, which according to NASA, occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun during the furthest point of its orbit. It will not completely obscure the sun.Austin will be on the edge of the eclipse, but not within the totality, where the eclipse is at its darkest. Fredericksburg will get the best views."This is a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It only happens in the same area every 300 years. AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Police Department has identified a man who was killed in a south Austin hit-and-run in December and is asking for the public's help identifying the suspect involved. It happened just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 in the eastbound lanes of the 900 block of West Ben White service road. Previous story: Police investigating fatal hit-and-run on Ben White service road The victim, identified by APD as Nelson Anderson, 20, was hit by a vehicle, and the driver of the vehicle did not stop to help, police said. Anderson was taken to a hospital, where he died. Police said the suspect vehicle is either a Toyota or a Pontiac, and it's red in color. On Wednesday, April 5, Wigdor LLP, a law firm in New York City, filed a lawsuit against St. Lawrence University regarding an alleged sexual assault involving two of the university's employees in April 2022. FENTON, Mo. - A man who robbed a gas station and whom police believe is armed and dangerous has now been found and taken into custody in Jefferson County, Thursday evening.A store clerk in Fenton spoke out about the brutal attack by the suspect during an armed robbery and said she is lucky to be alive.Amy Anderson, 35, suffered from a head injury, a broken arm, and multiple stitches to her head, lip, and eye. GLENALLEN, Mo. - Bulldozers were clearing debris through tornado-damaged communities in Glenallen and Marble Hill on Thursday. STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — The center courtyard at Mountain Village Apartments is normally a place where residents can walk their dogs or visit with neighbors as they make their way to the parking areas.
