Chicago celebrates final Silver Room Block Party CHICAGO — A well-known multicultural, family-friendly music and arts festival on the South Side is coming to an end after nearly two decades. The Silver Room Block Party extended nearly 10 blocks down the lakefront on the South Side this summer, and has been a Chicago staple for 18 years. But with the growth experienced by the festival over time, a hefty price tag for the event organizer has come with it, leading him to say it's a wrap for the summer attraction after this year."It's been a long run," said Eric Williams, founder of the Silver Room Block Party. "It was never meant to be this. It was meant to be 100 people and I think over time it just became a lot of work for me, a lot of money putting this together [so], it's time to take a step back."The Silver Room Block Party got its start in Wicker Park in 2002. It was then moved to Hyde Park for several years before being relocated to its current location — Oakwood Beach near 39th Street. More from Jewell: Faith, community lead...

Bailey Ober, bullpen hit hard in loss to Royals KANSAS CITY, Mo. — When the Twins send Bailey Ober out to the mound, they usually have a pretty good sense of what they’re going to get from him. Most of the time this season, it’s been a quality start. That was the case in his seven starts heading into Saturday’s tilt against the Kansas City Royals. But Ober, who has been the Twins’ most consistent starter this season, instead turned in an uncharacteristic performance on Saturday night. In his shortest start of the season (four innings), Ober gave up a season-high six runs on a season-high 11 hits.It was that hole that the Twins spent the whole night trying to claw their way back from. And while they came close to tying the game, they never could quite recover and eventually fell 10-7 to the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.Ober, who gave up a solo home run to Bobby Witt Jr. in the first inning, allowed another three runs in the second and two more in the third. Without his best stuff, it was a slog just getting through his four innings. ...

J.D Davis’ walk-off home run gives SF Giants dramatic victory over Red Sox SAN FRANCISCO – JD Davis needed just one pitch to hit his 14th home run of the season, walk off the Boston Red Sox, and tie the series with a 3-2 victory. He belted the first pitch he saw from Kenley Jansen over the left field wall and just inside the foul pole, electrifying a Giants crowd that a few moments earlier had sat stunned after the visitors rallied to tie the game. The bat was in the air almost as long as the ball was, with Davis letting the stick fly with a dramatic flourish before rounding the bases.“I was just happy it stayed fair, because it was hooking a little bit,” Davis said. “I just had to pause there and really take in the moment, to make sure it was fair or foul because it was hooking right to left.”San Francisco had gotten scoreless performances from Ryan Walker, Sean Manaea and Tyler Rogers against the Red Sox.All the Giants needed was for their All-Star closer Camilo Doval to notch his 32nd save of the season while leading 2-0.Inst...

Amid 'X' sign controversy, Musk says headquarters will remain in SF SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Elon Musk's latest move in converting Twitter to "X" was installing a giant "X" sign over company headquarters. Musk shared a tweet Friday night showing the bright sign displaying his company's new logo. Not everyone is happy with the new sign. San Francisco resident Christopher Beale tweeted a video of the aggressively bright light from the "X" outside his apartment and called it an "eye sore." City officials have their gripes with the sign as well. The City of San Francisco opened a complaint and an investigation into the sign, which is located at 1355 Market St. Putting up a sign on top of a building requires a permit for safety and design reasons, according to city officials. When workers took down the old Twitter sign on Monday, the job was interrupted by the San Francisco Police Department. SFPD told KRON4 that officers responded to a possible unpermitted street closure, but no crime was committed. (AP Photo/Godofredo A. Vásquez, File)Even with all of t...
