ST. LOUIS (AP) — A Missouri clinic will stop prescribing puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to minors for the purpose of gender transition, citing a new state law that the clinic says “creates unsustainable liability” for health care workers.A statement released Monday by the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital said patients currently receiving care will be referred to other providers. The center will continue to provide education and mental health support for minors, as well as medical care for patients over the age of 18.“We are disheartened to have to take this step,” the statement read. “However, Missouri’s newly enacted law regarding transgender care has created a new legal claim for patients who received these medications as minors. This legal claim creates unsustainable liability for health-care professionals and makes it untenable for us to continue to provide comprehensive transgender care for minor patients without subjectin...Speaker McCarthy says he’ll direct House to open impeachment inquiry into President Biden over family business dealings

SEMINOLE, Florida (WFTS) — Returning to the parking lot of Second Time Around Consignment in Seminole, Travis DuPont couldn’t help but get chills.“I’m like right here talking to the guy and then reaching in and pulling him out,” he explained, gesturing to where he was standing just a little more than a day later. “I’m just thankful that I got him out of there just in time. If I was any earlier, I would have missed him. If I was any later, you know, he might have not been here,” he said.Earlier Sunday morning, right before 3:30, as DuPont was driving home from work, he saw a flash and a pop in the distance.“I turned my radio off my car immediately. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy used a 4-minute Tuesday statement to plunge the House GOP toward an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. But he won’t know until Wednesday if he’s won over his toughest audience: his own members. While announcing that he will move Republicans toward a formal impeachment probe, McCarthy also signaled that he’ll sidestep the biggest challenge he had faced — locking down a majority of Republican votes for one. In a U-turn from his previous pledge to require a vote on the floor, McCarthy said Tuesday that he would be “directing” committees to “to open a formal impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.”A McCarthy spokesperson confirmed the GOP leader doesn’t plan to hold a vote to launch the impeachment inquiry: “Speaker announced an inquiry. The inquiry is now open.”What was left unsaid: It’s not clear that he has majority support for the very impeachment inquiry he told his members to open. That’s thanks to multiple GOP members, largely centrists, who are...Latest news
