YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KRON) -- Outdoor enthusiasts hoping to visit Yosemite National Park's flowing waterfalls and snowy mountains received more bad news this week from California parks officials.Yosemite has been closed for the past 11 days due to severe winter weather conditions. And with another atmospheric river in the forecast, the world-famous park will remain closed through Sunday, March 12. Park officials said the closure may even extend beyond March 12. "Reopening on March 13 is a best-case scenario. Another storm system is forecast at the end of the week that could result in further impacts to the park. The park will provide an update early next week," YNP wrote on Twitter Tuesday. Yosemite Falls, one of the world’s tallest waterfalls, is seen on March 7, 2023. Yosemite has experienced significant snowfall in all areas of the park. Crews are working to restore critical services before visitors return. SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) -- The brother of San Francisco Mayor London Breed is eligible to shorten his 44-year prison sentence after changes to California's definition of murder, a judge ruled Monday. Napoleon Brown has served two decades in prison for robbing a San Francisco diner with a man in 2000. As they fled over the Golden Gate Bridge, the driver of the vehicle, Brown's girlfriend, fell out of the car and was fatally run over by a drunk driver. Prosecutors allege that Brown pushed the woman out of the car and committed involuntary manslaughter. He was convicted of murder in 2005 based on a statement the woman said to police before she died. DALY CITY, Calif. (KRON) -- A fatal shooting in Daly City on Monday night took the life of a 27-year-old woman and led to the arrest of one man, according to a statement from the Daly City Police Department. MARTINEZ, Calif. (KRON) -- Contra Costa Health (CCH) has issued a health advisory for residents who live near the Martinez Refinery, following the department cautioning residents against eating produce grown in exposed gardens. CCH is advising residents near the Martinez refinery not to eat produce grown in soil that may have been exposed to "spent catalyst" with heavy metals until further environmental testing is done. Atmospheric river to impact Bay Area later this week “We are making this recommendation out of an abundance of caution,” said Dr. Ori Tzvieli, health officer for Contra Costa County. “There is no immediate health threat to the community. (KRON) -- On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom tweeted that California is "done" with Walgreens, declaring the state will no longer do business with the pharmacy store chain over abortion pill issues. But, it's unclear exactly how this decision would impact Californians or Walgreens.Walgreens last week announced it wouldn't sell abortion pills by mail to 20 conservative-led states. The statement came after attorneys general in the 20 states warned Walgreens and pharmacy chain CVS that they could face legal consequences if they sold abortion pills by mail to those states. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Three people were rescued Tuesday when firefighters responded to a one-alarm fire on Polk Street in San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Fire Department on Twitter. The fire, which is now contained, was reported at 1410 Polk Street, in what SFFD described as a three-story residential over commercial structure. Several dogs and cats rescued from burning house in San Francisco Video from the scene shows heavy smoke billowing from what looks like a business structure with several fire vehicles outside.The address given by firefighters matches that of Palm Fine Jewelry, which is permanently closed, according to its Facebook page. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Several dogs and cats were rescued from a residential structure fire in San Francisco's Sunset District on Tuesday morning, according to a tweet from the San Francisco Fire Department. Earlier, SFFD had tweeted about an active 1-alarm fire on the 2100 block of 42nd, a location just a few blocks from the beach that also borders the Parkside neighborhood. Video: Mountain lions spotted in San Mateo County Unfortunately, several birds that were also family pets at the home did not survive, according to SFFD. The fire is under control. No one was injured, and one person was displaced, SFFD said. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (The Hill) -- Two of the Americans who were kidnapped at gunpoint just over the Mexican border on Friday have been found dead, while two others were found alive with one wounded, a Mexican state governor said Tuesday.Tamaulipas Gov. Américo Villarreal said that the fourth kidnapping victim had no injuries, according to The Associated Press.
