Garlick replaces outfielder/first baseman Joey Gallo, who was placed on the 10-day Injured List due to a left hamstring strain.Garlick got the news in Buffalo at 10:30 Friday night after playing a game for the Saints. His flight, which included a stopover in Chicago, got him to Minneapolis at 10, leaving a short amount of time for a nap before heading to the ballpark.“We’re grinding a little bit,” Garlick said before the game. “But I’ve got my Starbucks, and I’m mentally preparing to go tonight.”This is Garlick’s third stint with the Twins this season, and he said he had no idea the latest move was coming.“We were kind of hanging out in the clubhouse after the game (Friday night) just playing some cards,” he said. “Then we see (Saints manager) Toby (Gardenhire) come over to the table. ...Hayes homers again as Cardinals drop series to Pirates

Before Phuc and Nguyen Pham were killed in front of their home during a violent South Bay crime spree, the couple could often be found sitting on their porch or tending their garden, stopping to talk with anyone who walked by.The Phams, who were in their 70s, died suddenly Thursday when the man suspected of the three-hour rampage ran over them in a stolen car in their driveway in San Jose. The suspect in the violent spree, Kevin Parkourana, 31 of San Jose, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of high-jacking vehicles, ramming the cars into pedestrians and stabbing multiple people — leaving three dead — including the Phams — and five others injured.Though authorities have not officially identified the victims, the Phams were identified to this news organization by a relative as well as a close friend.“At our age, we see people pass, but not like this,” said Phu Phan, a close friend of the family, tearing up while looking at the Pham’s home. “There are so m...Athletics’ Medina comes undone early, Miami wins 12-1

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Connor Joe learned the importance of beating the St. Louis Cardinals when the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted the now well-traveled outfielder nearly a decade ago.The Cardinals have long been a measuring stick for the Pirates, one they’ve largely failed to meet for most of the last quarter century or more. It’s June. It’s still really, really early. Yet there are signs Pittsburgh has closed the gap on a team that’s been more tormentor than a rival for a long, long time.Joe’s two-run double highlighted a sixth-inning rally and the Pirates surged past St. Louis for a second time in less than 24 hours, edging the Cardinals 4-3 on Saturday for their fourth consecutive victory. The teams split a four-game set at Busch Stadium in mid-April.
