WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen met Friday to try to complete a plan that the White House hopes will turn the page on a spat between the U.S. and European Union over electric vehicle tax credits. Biden and von der Leyen were expected to agree to open negotiations between the U.S. and the EU on a deal that could boost the use of European minerals critical in the production of electric vehicle batteries that are eligible for U.S. tax credits through Biden’s roughly $375 billion clean energy law that passed last year, according to White House officials.Biden at the start of the meeting said he and von der Leyen would discuss “driving new investments to create clean energy industries and jobs and make sure we have supply chains available” for both continents.Biden and von der Leyen are also expected to use their Oval Office meeting to discuss Western coordination to support Ukraine in the war against Russia, joint effort...Tip led to remote shack where abducted Americans were held

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (AP) — The anonymous tip that led Mexican authorities to a remote shack where four abducted Americans were held described armed men, people wearing blindfolds and plenty of activity around a ranch.Authorities headed for the rural area east of Matamoros on Tuesday morning, leaving the highway and driving remote dirt roads looking for the described location, according to Mexican investigative documents viewed Friday by The Associated Press. Finally, they saw the wooden shack far from any homes or businesses, surrounded by brush, and a white pickup parked outside that matched the one the Americans had been loaded into last Friday. Then they began to hear someone shouting, “Help!”Inside the shack, the documents said, Latavia “Tay” McGee and Eric Williams were blindfolded. Beside them were the bodies of Shaeed Woodard and Zindell Brown, wrapped in blankets and plastic bags. When authorities arrived, McGee and Williams shouted desperately to them in English.A guard ...Driver takes off after hitting pedestrian on Federal Boulevard

A new round of speed restrictions on the MBTA’s Red, Orange, Green and Blue lines made for a difficult commute Thursday night and Friday morning for riders relying on the public transit network. Though MBTA officials said they had lifted many of the new restrictions as of Friday morning around 10:30 a.m., frustration has lingered for some already impacted by previous public transit issues in the Boston area. “You prepare at a certain time and it comes either 10 minutes too early or five minutes too late and it throws off your whole schedule,” Makha Kekana, a restaurant server, said. “Then you get to work and you’re five minutes late and you have to explain ‘Oh I missed the T or the T didn’t come in time,’ so it can be a little frustrating.”Kekana gets paid hourly. She said she counts on the T to get her to work in time for her shift. Issues over the years, she said, have led to lost wages. “If you’re 30 minutes late, that’s like half your hourly wage that you h...Gov. Gov. Maura Healey voiced frustration over issues at the MBTA on Friday after a new round of delays at the T this week. Officials announced speed restrictions on the Red, Orange, Blue and Green lines on Thursday night in response to findings from a site visit by the Department of Public Utilities on Monday of this week. In a press conference Friday morning, MBTA Interim General Manager Jeff Gonneville said restrictions were lifted on the Red, Orange, and Blue lines except for localized areas. Gonneville said that restrictions were still in place on the Green and Mattapan lines, where necessary inspections may take until Monday.“The T is unacceptable right now,” Healey said while attending an event in Springfield. Healey was visiting Springfield to address the city’s chamber of commerce. She told 7NEWS that she is “very concerned about what happened. “I have been really clear that our focus is on safety and reliability,” she said. “We’ve made that a top priority and we’re go...Chicago Bears free-agent tracker: Long snapper Patrick Scales to return

Devin McCourty earned several nicknames from his teammates. Perhaps it was Matthew Slater who came up with the best one.He called him “Mr. Patriot.”During a media session a few years back, Slater explained why he gave McCourty, who announced his retirement Friday, that moniker.“I just think of everything he embodies and what he stands for. Obviously his on-the-field play is elite, he’s one of the best players at his position in the league. On the field, he’s like another coach,” said Slater. “He’s so reliable, so consistent, his football I.Q. is the best that I’ve seen over the last several years. It’s up there with the best over the course of my career.“And then what he does off the field, as well. The type of man he is, his consistent character, the things that he does in the community, the type of teammate that he is. If you’re looking for a guy that you want to build a team around, you want young players to look to and model, that’...Latest news
