RPI RA's win union vote 55 to 9 TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- After a battle to unionize, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) resident assistants (RAs) won their union vote 55 to nine. The RPI RA Union will represent the interests of RAs and will be affiliated with the Office and Professional Employees International Union. According to a spokesperson for the student workers, RPI RAs are paid 80-90% less than RAs at similar-sized institutions yet are required to work over 20 hours a week overseeing up to 80 students. Two arrested after ID theft and larceny investigation ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State police report the arrest of Alexandra Moak, 23 of Latham and Pharoah Dillion, 24 of Albany. On November 29, 2022 around 4:30 p.m. troopers began investigating a larceny determining multiple forged checks from a victim's account were remotely deposited. Police explain the checks were deposited into Moak's personal bank account. Moak then withdrew $4,800 of the stolen funds from a financial institution in North Greenbush. Moak was arrested and processed on January 13. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the North Greenbush Town Court and Albany City Court and released.Police report the investigation continued and found Dillion had and provided forged checks to Moak for deposit. LOUIS - A teenage girl faces felony charges after a fatal crash near a St. Louis casino earlier this year, one in which she reportedly sped away while trying to avoid a traffic stop. Prosecutors have charged Nikkiah Mack, 19, with first-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in the investigation. Authorities issued a warrant for Mack's arrest on Thursday. Fire at Garden Grove strip mall causes more than $1M in damages A fire at a Garden Grove strip mall Thursday night caused more than $1 million in damages, officials said.The blaze was reported around 8:40 p.m. at a strip mall in the 12500 block of Valley View Street, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.Responding crews saw flames coming from the roof of the building and the blaze was declared a second-alarm fire, prompting the response of more than 40 firefighters, OCFA Capt. Thanh Nguyen said. The roof collapsed during the firefight, but no injuries were reported.The blaze caused about $1 million in damages to the structure and additional $250,000 to the building’s contents, fire officials said.Firefighters were able to keep the blaze contained to four units.The cause remains under investigation.
