AUSTIN (KXAN) – As Austin and Central Texas bake in extremely high temperatures, Austin Pets Alive! warned pet owners about a danger they may not be aware of: snakes. Austin ties record for most days at or above 105° in a row APA! said Tuesday snakes are looking for cool places such as rocks on hiking trails, around potted outdoor plants or under wooden porches. Editor's note – The headline has been updated to clarify that that this is the second positive West Nile trap in the Brushy Creek MUD and the 6th overall in Williamson County.WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas -- A second sample of mosquitoes collected in the Brushy Creek MUD has tested positive for West Nile virus, according to a news release Tuesday from Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD). This is the sixth reported West Nile virus-positive trap of the 2023 season in Williamson County, the release said. This is also the fifth week in a row that a positive trap was reported in Williamson County.The testing is part of WCCHD Integrated Vector Management program, which through surveillance, control, prevention and education aims to prevent human infection of mosquito-borne diseases, the release said.The positive sample was collected from a trap site near Cat Hollow Park (Liberty Walk Drive/ O’Connor Drive) on July 13, according to WCCHD. Man charged with child sex abuse in Saratoga County

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A man has been arrested after a lengthy investigation, said the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office. John Donaldson, 68, of Lackawanna, Erie County, was arrested on July 13. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Donaldson is accused of having sexual contact with a child less than 11 years old in Saratoga County. He was found in Lackawanna and arrested. He's been charged with first-degree sexual abuse, which is a felony.He was arraigned in Milton Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility on $2,500 cash bail, $5,000 secure bond, and $25,000 partially secure bond. The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Lackawanna Police Department with the arrest.

Major Case Squad investigating fatal shooting in Overland

ST. LOUIS - The Major Case Squad is activated in Overland Wednesday morning after a man was shot and killed outside a home.15 to 20 major case detectives have been called in for the investigation. About six additional Overland police detectives are also on the case. Authorities are working out of the Overland Police Department. Captain Jim Morgan told FOX 2 that the victim in the case is a 26-year-old man.This all unfolded at a home on Baltimore Avenue not far from Midland Boulevard in Overland. The scene was close to the Overland border with St. John.
